Playing Together

I have friends who regularly inspire me with their running, mountain climbing and other physical pursuits - and not just that they exhibit amazing determination, commitment and courage - but that so often it is not just a personal endeavour, but one that welcomes and often engages the involvement of their family.

We know from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that we are to honour God with our bodies. As Seventh-day Adventists we consider it important to look after our physical health both for this reason, and also because we acknowledge the integration of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health: the condition of one aspect affects the condition of all others.

Pause for a moment and consider your commitment to health. And then take one step further: how do you encourage a lifestyle of health in your ministry (whether that be through a volunteer position at Church or in your family)? Do you take a "do what I say, not what I do" approach, or are you setting an example of healthy living for them to follow?

How can we best help our children to adopt a lifestyle that is health-giving and God-honouring?

It doesn't take much reading to find that one of the best ways that we can help our children develop healthy lifestyle habits is by doing it together. Yes, setting an example is important too, but pales in comparison to engaging with our children in a lifestyle of health.

"Train up a child..." the Bible says. What better reason do we need to get out there and play together! #livemore

[I have to say, I am in the process of challenging myself with this very concept and am looking forward to Playing Together more with my own family. And let us all remember, every step we take in the right direction, is a step worth taking!]
